Welcome Stanford Alumni Association Visitors!

Dear Stanford Alumni Association visitor,

Most books written about dyslexia focus on the mechanics of this LD. I took a different approach. I wanted to look at the people behind dyslexia, to hear their stories. I wanted to include interviews where the words came alive. The Human Side of Dyslexia: 142 interviews with REAL people telling REAL stories, does just that.

The stories focus on family issues, siblings, school challenges, the college-search and the college-experience. They are packed with practical coping strategies, and you will be able to relate to an "invisible" support system by sharing family experiences. My commentaries and pointers, after each interview section, will remind you to check off those strategies that you may want to implement. Essentially, it's a resource book that you pick up and put down - no need to read cover-to-cover.

In addition, the stories give encouragement - to realize that your child can succeed in any area, s(he) wishes to pursue. My own daughter, now 27, is Director of Marketing and Communications in a high tech company. The compliments I receive from her colleagues, are a constant reminder that someone with dyslexia can succeed!

I hope you will want to learn more about the 142 family experiences, by clicking on the "continue" button.

Sincerely yours,

Shirley Kurnoff
